This is a set of qualities I have used several times to test the leadership potential in employees, usually in middle management positions. Each person is expected to rate themselves on the basis of the following abilities using a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best score possible. It is a great guide to help aspiring leaders know what they must fine tune. This test is administered in three columns: Ability, Current Year, Next Year so that they can be checked over time. Test Your Leadership Potential Listen attentively to clients Listen attentively to those you supervise Fully know your strengths Fully know your own core values and principles Communicate effectively Understand the motivations and strengths of each person you supervise Set priorities and action plans Learn and improve Relate your responsibility to the big picture Analyze problems and make sound decisions Adapt to changing conditions, influences and environments Accept risk and take on difficult assignments Inspire others to speak up candidly Stand up when under fire Admit your mistakes Learn from your mistakes Exhibit strong social and interpersonal skills Focus on the end product or goal Demonstrate a high tolerance for stress and pressure |
